The Goods Yard Footbridge
When a new residential development comes to town, you may expect some added benefits for the local area, but the residents of Bishop's Stortford got more than they bargained for: The striking new Goods Yard Footbridge now crossing the river Stort following a major housing project in the Hertfordshire town.
The Green Heart Partnership, an organisation established by a consortium of local authorities (including the client, East Herts District Council) ensured that an uninspiring design was avoided in favour of this radical yet functional construction. The distinctive "Z" shape of the bridge allows full step and ramp access to the link to the south-eastern residential areas to the town centre.
Laurie Socker, lighting engineer from specifier Gifford, said: "The use of LED lighting in this way was unusual, and in many ways it was a challenge for us. However, the Designplan LED fittings have truly succeeded on the Goods Yard Footbridge, providing a beautifully clear white light while contributing to an original and striking architectural design."
Laurie was also impressed with Designplan's service throughout the whole process: "Designplans engineers and representatives were fully involved at all stages of the project. They were vital to the success of the bridges lighting, and as you can see, the whole design and implementation has been a real acheivement."
